From the death of Charles I in 1649, England and Wales found themselves in the grip of a currency crisis. To remedy this shortage of money, the traders and civic bodies of the country had their own token coinage made.
Dr. Adrian Marsden (Numismatist Norfolk Historic Environment Service) looks at Great Yarmouth’s 17th century tokens and at the stories of the people who issued them.
